Construction for Traffic Signal Foundations Will Continue at Fifth and Sixth Avenues Next Week

When construction for the University Line is complete, there will be 35 new traffic signals to support the downtown loop. The PRT electrical subcontractor is working weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to install traffic signal foundations. Construction activities are scheduled to happen at the following locations over the next two weeks.

  • Fifth Avenue and Wood Street
  • Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue
  • Fifth Avenue and Grant Street
  • Sixth Avenue and Liberty Avenue
  • Sixth Avenue and Centre Avenue

The contractor will begin installing traffic signal poles on top of the foundations in the spring.

A small construction fence will remain in place at each location until the work is complete.

The PRT contractor will continue to perform exploratory excavation and begin installation of new water and drainage infrastructure.

Construction fencing remains in place on Sixth Avenue between Wood Street and Liberty Avenue adjacent to Wood Street Station.

Currently, two travel lanes on Sixth Avenue heading toward Liberty (adjacent to Wood Street Station) are closed. Vehicles traveling on Sixth Avenue are forced to turn left or right onto Wood Street.

One travel lane is maintained so vehicles traveling on Liberty Avenue can turn right onto Sixth Avenue.

Underground utility work will continue at this location through the middle of April.

Final restoration of the street and sidewalk, including new ADA ramps will begin in the spring.

Thank you for your continued support of this project.
