Impacted Service Routes Include 61D, 71A, 71C or 71D

Major Service Changes Underway

Pittsburgh Regional Transit enacted a few major service changes on Sunday, October 1, to make room for construction on the University Line and accommodate continued Operator shortages.

61D-Murray, 71A-Negley, 71C-Point Breeze, and 71D-Hamilton will end their inbound trips in Oakland and will no longer serve Uptown and downtown Pittsburgh.

Service Adjustments Go Into Effect on October 1, Meeting Scheduled to Discuss Changes

Four bus routes that currently travel through the city’s Oakland neighborhood will no longer serve downtown Pittsburgh and Uptown beginning October 1 to help facilitate the flow of traffic during construction of Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s University Line bus rapid transit project.

Services changes will affect the following routes: 61D, 71A, 71C, and 71D

Route Changes

The PRT Board of Directors approved service changes to bus routes 61D, 71A, 71C, and 71D, which are expected to be implemented this fall. They will continue to service east-end neighborhoods, but they will no longer connect these neighborhoods to Downtown. The inbound routes for these four lines will instead turn around at Craft Avenue, where the BRT corridor will begin. Passengers on these lines wishing to continue to Downtown will have to get off at Craft Avenue and take one of the lines along the BRT corridor, which include the 61A, 61B, 61D, 71B or P3.

Due to the amount of feedback Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) received during the public comment period for service changes related to the upcoming Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, PRT decided to continue studying potential service patterns on the P3-East Busway before proposing any final decisions.
