Construction Activities to Continue at Sixth Avenue and Wood Street This Week

PRT contractors are wrapping up the installation of drainage infrastructure on Sixth Avenue between Liberty Avenue and Wood Street.

Once drainage infrastructure is installed, the contractor will begin temporary restoration of the work zone, which is expected to happen by the end of the month.

Permanent restoration will begin at this location in the late spring/early summer.

Electrical Work to Continue at Multiple Locations This Week

35 new traffic signals will support the University Line project in downtown Pittsburgh.

Construction activities for traffic signal foundations and associated electrical work will continue this week.

Over the next few weeks, the PRT electrical subcontractor will be working weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Fifth Avenue and Wood Street
  • Fifth Avenue and Cherry Way (old Kauffman’s building garage)
  • Fifth Avenue and Smithfield Street
  • Sixth Avenue and Centre Avenue (8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.)

Each location has additional work to be performed. The contractor will move between the locations to help keep the project on schedule.

Restoration at Fifth Avenue and Liberty Avenue to Begin Soon

The PRT contractor is tentatively scheduled to begin restoration on the south side of Fifth Avenue (adjacent Heinz Healey’s) between Wood Street and Liberty Avenue on April 22nd.

This portion of restoration will include replacing a section of sidewalk where the fire hydrant is located and replacing one travel lane of the concrete roadway on the south side of Fifth Avenue.

The north side of Fifth Avenue, adjacent to Triangle Park will be restored at a later date and will include a full replacement of the sidewalk, granite curbs and concrete roadway. The sidewalk will also be expanded to accommodate the new bus shelter.
