Milling and paving activities will require parking restrictions along Forbes and Fifth avenues and nearby streets in Uptown beginning Tuesday, October 6.

The work is weather dependent and is expected to last through the end of the month.

Milling and paving will take place along the left side of Forbes Avenue from Shingiss Street to Pride Street and from Jumonville Street to the Birmingham Bridge. While parking is already restricted along those sections of roadway, motorists will be unable to park on the corner of side streets at intersections within the work zones.

Parking will also be restricted on both sides of Fifth Avenue from Diamond Street to Sixth Avenue and on Sixth Avenue from Fifth Avenue to Forbes Avenue for roadway construction. Parking will also be restricted at intersections along the work zone.

Beginning on October 9, crews will mill and pave Fifth Avenue from Craft Avenue to Kirkpatrick Street.

Construction will occur Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists should expect delays during that time. Bus stops will not be impacted.

Beginning on Friday, October 9, crews will mill and pave Fifth Avenue from Craft Avenue to Kirkpatrick Street.

Drivers should expect temporary closures at intersections in all work zones while crews move milling and paving equipment through the area.

Crews continue installation of shelter frames, components, and amenities throughout Uptown and Oakland.

This week, a shelter frame was erected at Fifth and Tennyson avenues. Next week, crews will install shelters at Fifth and Chesterfield avenues and Forbes and McKee avenues.

Crews are working to install components such as roof glass, windscreens, and light fixtures at all shelter frames. Station amenities such as seating, next-bus arrival screens, and bike racks are installed after station components.

By the end of the year, a total of 19 new PRTX stations will be installed at both inbound and outbound bus stops along the University Line corridor.

Traffic Island Construction Continues on Fifth Avenue in Oakland

Earlier this week, an additional lane of traffic closed along three blocks of Fifth Avenue in Oakland as contractors began to install five concrete islands. The closure will remain in place 24/7 and is expected to be completed in six weeks.

The lane closure is located between Bellefield and Lytton avenues, leaving one lane open to general traffic. Buses will continue to travel in the red bus-only lane.

The concrete islands will frame future paid parking spots, serve as a buffer between the bi-directional bike lane and general traffic, and shorten crosswalks.

Access to side streets and crosswalks will be maintained. Motorists should expect delays and allow additional time for travel.

When construction for the University Line is complete, there will be 24 PRTX stations throughout Downtown, Uptown, and Oakland.

PRT continues to work closely with stakeholders including community groups,

universities, businesses, and other impacted groups during construction.

PRTX stations will have new shelters with upgraded amenities, including next-bus arrival screens, fare vending machines, seating, lighting, emergency phones and security cameras.
