Work began this past Monday to mill and pave Fifth Avenue as well as the entrance to the Boulevard of the Allies west bound on ramp from Fifth Avenue.

Closer to town, crews will complete milling and paving within a single lane of Fifth Avenue from Diamond Street to Sixth Avenue this Monday, November 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A single lane of traffic will be maintained. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

Final milling and paving of the future bike lane on Fifth Avenue will reduce traffic to one lane and temporarily restrict access to side streets next week as roadway construction continues.

Beginning Monday, Fifth Avenue will be reduced to one lane from Bellefield

Avenue to Craft Avenue as crews mill and pave the former counterflow lane in preparation for the conversion to the future bi-directional bike lane.

Crews will also mill and pave the intersections on the south (left) side of Fifth Avenue at Craft Avenue, Halket Street, McKee Place, Meyran Avenue, Atwood Street, Oakland Avenue, Bouquet Street, and Bigelow Boulevard. Permanent crosswalk and traffic markings will be applied following the paving.

Motorists will be unable to make left turns from Fifth Avenue onto side streets for several hours during construction at each intersection.

Work is scheduled to occur overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Saturday, November 7. All work is weather-dependent and subject to change. Flaggers will be at each active construction zone.

A significant milestone will be achieved following this work as all utility upgrades and roadway restoration work along with a major percentage of sidewalk restoration in Oakland will be completed. Bus shelters, final signal installation, and punch list items will be completed by spring 2027.

Installation of Bike Lane Markings Begin

The bright green paint signifying bike lanes is beginning to appear throughout the University Line corridor, but bicyclists will have to wait until next spring before the lanes are ready for use.

While some paint is being applied now, final markings, including in the future bi-directional lane, will not be applied until early next year. Bicyclists are not permitted to use the lanes as the continuous route connections are not yet established.

Other construction activities that need to be completed prior to the bike lanes opening include the installation of directional legends, electronic signals, and establishing the continuous routing through Uptown and Oakland.

When construction for the University Line is complete, there will be 24 PRTX stations throughout Downtown, Uptown, and Oakland.

PRT continues to work closely with stakeholders including community groups,

universities, businesses, and other impacted groups during construction.

PRTX stations will have new shelters with upgraded amenities, including next-bus arrival screens, fare vending machines, seating, lighting, emergency phones and security cameras.
