Extensive milling and paving operations on both Forbes and Fifth avenues in Uptown will temporarily impact motorists, residents, businesses and bus riders as paving progresses through early November.

Earlier this week, crews began paving the left (north) side of Forbes Avenue between Boyd and Pride streets in Uptown with the right (south) side to be completed tomorrow, Saturday, October 17, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. During this work:

  • One travel lane will be maintained.
  • Access to the Armstrong Tunnel will have intermittent restrictions during work hours.
  • Right turns and access to side streets will be restricted at McAnulty Drive, Magee Street, and Stevenson Street.
  • Bus stops at Boyd Street and Stevenson Street will be closed.

On Monday, October 19, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., PRT’s contractor will complete paving on side street intersections on the right (south) side of Forbes Avenue. During this work:

  • One travel lane will be maintained.
  • Right turns and access will be restricted at Boyd Street, McAnulty Drive, Magee Street, and Stevenson Street.
  • The bus stop at Forbes Avenue and Pride Street will be shifted 20 feet to the opposite side of the intersection.

Once completed, two lanes of travel will open on Forbes Avenue from Boyd Street to Pride Street.

Also on Monday, October 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., PRT’s contractor will mill and pave both sides of Fifth Avenue from Diamond Street to Sixth Avenue and the left outbound lane of Sixth Avenue between Fifth and Forbes avenues. During this work:

  • One travel lane will be maintained.
  • Motorists will have access to Diamond Street.

On Tuesday, October 20, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., crews will begin paving the left (north) lane of Forbes Avenue from Jumonville Street to the Birmingham Bridge and the side street intersections at Seneca and Moultrie streets. During this work:

  • One travel lane will be maintained.
  • Left turns and access to side streets will be restricted at Jumonville, Seneca, and Moultrie streets.

On Wednesday, October 21, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will shift to the right (south) side of Forbes Avenue between Jumonville and Brady streets. While the roadway was temporarily paved last winter to provide safer conditions for snowplows and buses, it will need milled before a new and final coating of asphalt is applied. Crews will also mill the side street intersections at Jumonville, Seneca and Moultrie streets. During this work:

  • One travel lane will be maintained.
  • Right turns and access to side streets will be restricted at Jumonville, Seneca, and Moultrie streets.
  • Motorists can expect a brief restriction to Brady Street and the Birmingham Bridge on-ramp as milling and paving equipment moves through.
  • The bus stops at Soho or Seneca may be impacted, however, staff will be on site to assist riders.
  • Bus boarding will be at street level only.

On Thursday, October 22, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will complete paving on the left (north) side and right (south) lane on Forbes Avenue between Jumonville Street and Brady Street. During this work:

  • One travel lane will be maintained.
  • Access to side streets will be restricted on both sides of Jumonville, Seneca, and Moultrie streets.
  • Motorists can expect a brief restriction to Brady Street and the Birmingham Bridge on-ramp as paving equipment moves through.
  • The bus stops at Soho or Seneca may be impacted, however, staff will be on site to assist riders.
  • Bus boarding will be at street level only.

On Friday, October 23, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will complete paving on the left (north) side intersections on Forbes Avenue at Seneca and Moultrie streets as well as the right (south) intersections on Forbes Avenue at Marion, Van Braam, Miltenberger, Gist, Seneca, Jumonville, and Moultrie streets. During this work:

  • One travel lane will be maintained on the opposite side of the work area.
  • Access to each side street will be restricted for several hours only during construction.
  • Bus boarding will be street level only.

All work is weather dependent and subject to change. PRT will have flaggers and staff to assist riders boarding and exiting buses.

Sidewalk and ADA access along with crosswalks will be maintained on the opposite side of each work zone.

Paving at other locations on Fifth and Forbes avenues in Uptown and Oakland will occur through mid-November.
