More Work Locations Being Added to University Line Construction
March 18, 2025
Pittsburgh Regional Transit will add two more work locations to the University Line construction project in Oakland this month.
Crews will perform roadway restoration on Forbes Avenue at McKee Place beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 21 through midnight on Saturday, March 22. Earlier this month, crews relocated water and drainage infrastructure in this location.

A portion of Forbes Avenue will remain open to vehicular traffic. McKee Place will be closed other than for emergency vehicles.
Pedestrian access and some street parking will be maintained.
The bus stop at Forbes Avenue at McKee Place will be out of service. Riders should instead use the bus stop at Forbes Avenue at Halket Street or Meyran Avenue.
Starting on March 29, PRT’s contractor will return to erect construction fencing on Forbes Avenue between Mckee Place and Semple Street to facilitate the installation of new sidewalks, curbs, and accessible ramps.
Work in this location will be conducted weekdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until June.
Also on March 29, a work zone will be added on Forbes Avenue between Craft Avenue and Halket Street, where the contractor will install sewer infrastructure and electrical conduit, new sidewalks, curbs, and accessible ramps.

Work at that location will be conducted weekdays and Saturdays as needed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., also through June.
Construction fencing will occupy one travel lane and the sidewalk.
Later this year, the contractor will return to install station shelters and associated amenities at both locations.
Construction on the University Line bus rapid transit project began in downtown Pittsburgh in September 2023. Construction for Phase Two of the University Line in Uptown and Oakland began in January.
The University Line will feature dedicated bus lanes and enhanced transit amenities, connecting downtown Pittsburgh to Oakland, Pennsylvania’s second- and third-largest economic centers. The $291 million project is expected to be operational by 2027.
