Paving Begins Next Week on Forbes Avenue in Uptown

Beginning August 29, crews will mill Forbes Avenue between Stevenson and Jumonville streets to prepare for road restoration work scheduled to begin next week. ​

Paving operations will take place in the two south lanes of Forbes Avenue and are expected to be completed by Labor Day. During construction, traffic will remain limited to one travel lane through the work zone. Pedestrians and motorists should continue to use caution and allow extra time for travel through Uptown.

Once road restoration is complete on the south side, crews will immediately shift to the opposite side of Forbes Avenue. This phase will include installation of new concrete sidewalks and curbs, as well as milling and paving the roadway. Future phases include installation of a bicycle lane. ​

Permanent Markings Placed on Oakland Bus Lanes

Earlier this week, PRT’s contractor completed the pavement markings for the new bus lanes on Forbes and Fifth avenues. These markings include “bus only” lettering, lane markers, right turn arrows, and crosswalks.

Port Authority Police have already begun enforcement by increasing patrols in the area and helping to educate drivers. Part of this education includes explaining to drivers how to safely merge into the bus lane where appropriate to make a right turn.

Ticketing will begin after a brief warning period.

PRTX Station Installations Continue

Progress is being made on new PRTX bus shelters throughout Uptown and Oakland. Glass panels have already been installed at several locations, and a new station was erected this week at Forbes Avenue and Schenley Drive. Installation of additional shelter amenities will continue at 19 locations between Uptown and Oakland. ​

These amenities include fare vending machines, emergency phones, display screens, and security cameras, providing PRT riders with more comfortable and secure waiting areas. ​

As installations continue, riders should continue to use the current bus stops until these shelters are officially available for use.

The University Line Corridor ​

When construction for the University Line is complete, there will be 24 PRTX stations throughout Downtown, Uptown, and Oakland. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​

PRT continues to work closely with stakeholders including community groups, universities, businesses, and other impacted groups during construction. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​

PRTX stations will have new shelters with upgraded amenities, including next-bus arrival screens, fare vending machines, seating, lighting, emergency phones and security cameras. ​
