Paving of Forbes Avenue from Stevenson Street to Jumonville Street is scheduled to be completed by this weekend. Paving from Boyd Street to Stevenson Street was completed last month.
Starting Tuesday, September 8, motorists will travel on the newly paved right and center lanes stretching from Boyd Street to the Birmingham Bridge. Contractors will return later this year to complete roadway restoration from Jumonville Street to Brady Street at the Birmingham Bridge.
Construction crews will now focus on sidewalk demolition, utility upgrades, and final restoration of sidewalks and curbs on the opposite side of Forbes Avenue. That work is expected to continue through late fall.
Crews continue working at the corner of Forbes Avenue and Chatham Street. After the gas company finished their work, PRT’s contractors upgraded the storm sewer and catch basin and will start to rebuild the accessible ramps and sidewalk.
Sidewalk and Roadway Construction Expands in Former Counterflow Lane

Construction along the future bi-directional bike lane along Fifth Avenue has increased as crews work on both the sidewalks and roadway.
Depending on the block extending from Bellefield Avenue to Craft Avenue, crews are either removing or restoring the sidewalk and curbs. The roadway in the former counterflow lane has been milled, and crews have installed concrete buffers that will separate vehicles on Fifth Avenue from the bike lane. Pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists are not permitted in the lane at any time and could face enforcement actions.
Access to businesses and intersections will be maintained during construction.
Shelter and Amenity Installation Ongoing

Shelter frames and components along with station amenities continue to be installed throughout the University Line in Oakland and Uptown.
Once frames are installed, crews will then begin installing components such as roof glass, wind screens, and light fixtures. Electricians have begun installing conduits and wiring for the security cameras, emergency phones, and next bus arrival screens. Amenities such as security cameras, emergency phones, and bike racks are also being installed.
In Uptown, station frames have been installed at:
- SoHo Station at Forbes Avenue past Moultrie Street
- Jumonville Station at Forbes Avenue and Jumonville Street
- SoHo Station at Fifth Avenue and Kirkpatrick Street
- Uptown Central Station at Fifth Avenue and Dinwiddie Street
- Uptown West Station at Fifth Avenue and Washington Place
- Jumonville Station at Fifth Avenue and Wyandotte Street
- Pride Station at Forbes Avenue and Pride Street
- Uptown West Station at Forbes Avenue and McAnulty Street (Duquesne University)
In Oakland, station frames have been installed at:

- Central Oakland Station at Forbes Avenue and S. Bouquet Street
The next station frames scheduled for installation early next month are:

- McKee Station at Forbes Avenue and McKee (by Here Pittsburgh)
By the end of the year, a total of 19 new PRTX stations will be installed at both inbound and outbound bus stops along the University Line corridor. While construction is underway, riders must continue using the existing bus stops until the new shelters are fully completed and open for service.

When construction for the University Line is complete, there will be 24 PRTX stations throughout Downtown, Uptown, and Oakland.
PRT continues to work closely with stakeholders including community groups, universities, businesses, and other impacted groups during construction.
PRTX stations will have new shelters with upgraded amenities, including next-bus arrival screens, fare vending machines, seating, lighting, emergency phones and security cameras.
