Roadway Restoration Occurring on Forbes Avenue in Uptown

Crews are making steady progress placing conduits, completing sidewalks and roadway reconstruction on Forbes Avenue in Uptown. Contractors have milled the south and center lanes from just before Boyd Street to Jumonville Street and are now patching concrete sections of the road base. Paving will occur after the road base has been restored and is expected to be completed by the end of August.

There is a heavy construction presence along Forbes Avenue from Boyd Street to Stevenson Street, as that section of roadway is slated to be completed with three lanes of traffic open by the time Duquesne University students are scheduled to arrive beginning August 17.

Parking remains suspended on both sides of Forbes ​ and traffic will remain restricted to one lane while crews work to get the road completed.

Construction Begins on the South Side of Fifth Avenue in Uptown

Construction is in full swing on the left, or south, side of Fifth Avenue extending from Wyandotte Street to Diamond Street. The work includes sidewalk and future roadway restoration activities similar to construction that was recently completed on the opposite side of the road. This phase of construction is expected to be completed by early 2027.

Concrete barriers will remain in place on the north (right) side of Fifth Avenue between Kirkpatrick and Wyandotte streets as contractors complete final sidewalk restoration, which is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

Work continues to progress on the sidewalk restoration along the south side of Fifth Avenue from Craft Avenue to the Boulevard of the Allies on-ramp. ​

Traffic on Fifth Avenue will be reduced to a single travel lane from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. During non-working hours, channelizers will be repositioned to allow two lanes of traffic to travel inbound to Downtown Pittsburgh.

Bus riders will once again board and exit buses directly from the sidewalk along Fifth Avenue.

Parking on both sides of Fifth Avenue will remain suspended throughout construction.

Access to businesses and intersections will be maintained, and pedestrians will continue to have access through temporary walkways, ADA-accessible ramps, or sidewalks on the opposite side of active work zones.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down, use caution, and watch for changing traffic patterns throughout the construction zones.

Installation Begins on New Shelters

Earlier this week, crews began installing five new PRTX shelters on both Forbes and Fifth ​ in Uptown. Shelter frames have been erected at the following locations:

With the shelter frames in place, crews will begin the installation of the glass panels, seating, lighting, and real-time bus arrival screens.

Riders should continue to use the original bus stop locations until the new stations are completed.

The University Line Corridor ​

When construction for the University Line is complete, there will be 24 PRTX stations throughout Downtown, Uptown, and Oakland. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​

PRT continues to work closely with stakeholders including community groups, universities, businesses, and other impacted groups during construction. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​

PRTX stations will have new shelters with upgraded amenities, including next-bus arrival screens, fare vending machines, seating, lighting, emergency phones and security cameras. ​ ​ ​
