PRT’s contractor has almost finished installing the new PRTX bus shelter at Ross Street Station located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Ross Street. This will be the first stop for the University Line when buses enter downtown.

Ross Street Station will serve as a demonstration model and will be closed to the public until all components have been tested. Station amenities will include a 15-foot bus shelter, emergency phone, security camera(s), seating, lighting, and real-time arrival signs.

Construction fencing is expected to remain in place until spring/summer 2025.

When construction for the University Line is complete, there will be five new PRTX stations in the Downtown Loop.

Two Additional Work Locations Added to University Line Construction

On March 1, PRT’s contractor will establish two additional work sites on Forbes Avenue in Oakland. The first one is between Schenley Drive and Schenley Drive Extension.

PRT’s contractor will begin relocating drainage and electrical infrastructure before building a new PRTX bus station.

To accommodate the construction fencing, the existing sidewalk, parking lane and bike lane adjacent to Schenley Park will be inaccessible. PRT’s contractor will shift traffic to the left and install a temporary bike lane adjacent to the construction fencing. Pedestrians will need to cross Forbes Avenue at Lawrence Hall or Schenley Drive Extension. The crosswalk at Schenley Drive will be closed.

Construction fencing will remain in place 24/7 until May.

Later this year, the contractor will be back to install a PRTX station with a 60-foot bus shelter and transit amenities.

The second new work zone will be at Forbes Avenue and South Bouquet Street in front of Pitt Law School.

PRT’s contractor will begin relocating drainage and electrical infrastructure here as well.

The travel lane and the sidewalk on the south side of the street will be closed and vehicular traffic will be reduced to two lanes. The parking lane on the north side of the road, adjacent to Litchfield Towers, will remain accessible.

Later this year, the contractor will be back to install a PRTX station with two 60-foot bus shelters and transit amenities.

The traffic detour will remain in place 24/7 until May.

Electrical Work to Continue in Oakland

PRT’s electrical subcontractor began electrical work on Forbes Avenue in Oakland. Crews began saw-cutting the roadway to place underground electrical conduit which will supply power to the future PRTX stations.

Crews will be working weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. They will move between the locations listed below over the next few weeks. Work is expected to take one or two weeks at each location.

  • Forbes Avenue and S. Bouquet Street
  • Forbes Avenue and McKee Place
  • Forbes Avenue and Craft Avenue

To accommodate this work, one travel lane, and the sidewalk adjacent to the work area may be closed. Traffic restrictions will be removed every evening.

Sewer Inspections and Catch Basin Replacements to Continue on Forbes Avenue in Uptown

PRT’s contractor is inspecting underground drainage infrastructure using CCTV technology in coordination with catch basin replacements in Uptown. Crews will be working weekdays at the following locations:

  • Forbes Avenue between Jumonville Street and Birmingham Bridge
    • 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Fifth Avenue between Diamond Street and Wyandotte Street
    • 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

They will move between multiple locations within each zone as work is completed. All drainage infrastructure within the limits of the project along Fifth and Forbes avenues will be inspected before catch basins are replaced.

Work will require a partial lane closure providing access to the manhole and/or catch basin on or near the curb. Traffic restrictions will be removed each night.
