Sidewalk Construction Underway on Forbes Avenue in Uptown
September 12, 2026

Construction along Forbes Avenue from Boyd Street to Moultrie Street has now flipped to the north side of the road as crews focus on sidewalk construction.
Similar to work occurring one block up on Fifth Avenue, construction includes sidewalk removal, installing conduit for street lights and pedestrian safety signals, upgrading ADA ramps, placing sidewalk trench drains, and in some cases, such as at Chatham Square, repairing or replacing storm sewers and catch basins. Final restoration includes installing wider sidewalks and new curbs. Roadway repair and restoration will take place after new sidewalks have been installed.
Access to side streets may be closed intermittently during work hours as construction activities progress throughout the area.
Construction on Sidewalks Along Fifth Avenue in Uptown in Full Force

Crews are working on sidewalk construction throughout the north side of Fifth Avenue from the Boulevard of the Allies on-ramp to Diamond Street near Downtown.
The construction involves removing existing sidewalks, installing conduit for street lights and pedestrian safety signals, upgrading ADA ramps, placing sidewalk trench drains, and in some instances, repairing or replacing storm sewers and catch basins. Final restoration includes installing wider sidewalks and new curbs. Roadway repair and restoration will take place after new sidewalks have been installed.
New decorative fence replacing the older broken and rusted fence was installed along Fifth Avenue past the Boulevard of the Allies on-ramp heading toward the Birmingham Bridge.
Entrance to side streets may be closed periodically during work hours as construction activities progress throughout the area.
Access to businesses and intersections will be maintained, and pedestrians will continue to have access through temporary walkways, ADA-accessible ramps, or sidewalks on the opposite side of active work zones.

When construction for the University Line is complete, there will be 24 PRTX stations throughout Downtown, Uptown, and Oakland.
PRT continues to work closely with stakeholders including community groups, universities, businesses, and other impacted groups during construction.
PRTX stations will have new shelters with upgraded amenities, including next-bus arrival screens, fare vending machines, seating, lighting, emergency phones and security cameras.
