New concrete sidewalk recently poured at Sixth Avenue and Wood Street

PRT’s contractor will continue to install a new sidewalk at Sixth Avenue between Liberty Avenue and Wood Street, adjacent to Wood Street Station Downtown.

When construction is complete, there will be a new PRTX station adjacent to the K&L Gates building. The station will have a 30-foot bus shelter with an ADA compliant loading zone, new sidewalk, and new curbs with accessible ramps.

Station amenities will include a ticket vending machine, emergency phone, security camera(s), seating, lighting, and new wayfinding signage.

Sixth Avenue is closed to inbound traffic between Wood Street and Liberty Avenue. One outbound travel lane is maintained so that vehicles traveling on Liberty Avenue can turn right onto Sixth Avenue. The sidewalk remains open across from the work site.

Construction fencing is expected to remain in place 24/7 until spring.

Waterline Relocation Underway at Forbes Avenue and McKee Place

PRT’s contractor is performing exploratory excavation in advance of relocating a waterline on Forbes Avenue between McKee Place and Meyran Avenue in Oakland.

The existing water main must be relocated before the contractor can start construction for the new PRTX station.

This work will close two travel lanes and a portion of the sidewalk adjacent to the HERE Pittsburgh apartment building.

Work will be performed weeknights between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Traffic restrictions will be removed during the day and reset each night.

Utility relocation work is expected to take several weeks.

Sewer Work to Continue in Uptown Next Week

PRT’s contractor started inspecting underground drainage infrastructure using CCTV technology and replacing catch basins in Uptown.

Inspection crews will work Monday through Friday at the following locations:

  • Forbes Avenue between Jumonville Street and the Birmingham Bridge
    • 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Fifth Avenue between Diamond and Jumonville streets
    • 8:00 a.m. – 4:00p.m.

The CCTV crew will move between the locations listed above to inspect all the drainage infrastructure within the phase II project limits along Fifth and Forbes avenues. Sewer inspections will require a partial lane closure providing access to the manhole and/or catch basin on or near the curb. Traffic restrictions will be removed at night.

Catch basin replacement also began last week and will continue on Forbes Avenue between Jumonville Street and Seneca Street in Uptown on weekdays from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. The contractor will move from side to side working up against the curb to replace multiple catch basins. Lane closures will shift as needed to accommodate the work. Traffic restrictions will be removed at night.
