The University Line Weekly Update

Construction activities for the University Line continue on Fifth Avenue (from Market to Liberty) adjacent to Triangle Park

The contractor continues to perform installation of a 12-inch water main (as shown above) and a 15-inch storm drain.

Currently, the center lane and the lane closest to Triangle Park are both closed as shown in the picture above. The travel lane closest to Market Square remains open. Bus detours remain the same.

The construction detour remains in place at Fifth Avenue and Liberty Avenue. The detour will remain in effect 24/7 until work is finished at this location, which is scheduled to happen by the end of November.

The contractor is scheduled to work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m., weather permitting. The contractor may work on Saturdays if needed to keep the project on schedule.

What’s happening next:

On Monday, November 13, around 6 a.m., the contractor will mobilize a second work location on Sixth Avenue between Grant Street and Ross Street. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction as shown in the picture below. Bus detours will remain the same. Pedestrian access will be maintained on both sides of the street.

For the first few days, the contractor will be saw-cutting and beginning to perform exploratory excavation.

While there will be a few weeks when the contractor is moving between work sites on Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue, construction activities on Fifth Avenue will be wrapping up soon for this portion of the project.

The contractor will continue to work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.- 5 p.m., weather permitting. The contractor may work on Saturdays if needed to keep the project on schedule.

Thank you for your continued support of this project.
