The University Line Weekly Update

The University Line construction continues on Fifth and Sixth avenues Downtown.

Details for each of these work sites can be found below.

Construction for the University Line on Sixth Avenue:

Pittsburgh Regional Transit contractor’s set up a second work site on Sixth Avenue between Grant Street and Ross Street.

Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction as shown in the picture below. Bus detours will remain the same. Pedestrian access will be maintained on both sides of the street.

The contractor is continuing to perform exploratory excavation for water main installation.

The construction detour will remain in effect 24/7 until work is finished at this location, which is expected to happen by the end of January.

Construction for the University Line on Fifth Avenue:

Construction activities continue on Fifth Avenue between Market Street and Liberty Avenue adjacent to Triangle Park.

The contractor is anticipating finishing final connections for the new water main on Fifth Avenue tonight (5pm-5am). This work requires a planned interruption of water service, so work is performed overnight in order to order to minimize disruption to residents and business.

The contractor will make every effort to minimize the noise from construction activities.

According to The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority, there is only one property that will be impacted by the nightly water disruption (10pm-5am), and they have already been notified.

The travel lane adjacent to Triangle Park is open. The center lane and the lane adjacent to Market Square will both be closed. Bus detours will remain the same.

The construction detour will remain in effect 24/7 until work is finished at this location.

While there will be a few weeks when the contractor is moving between work sites on Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue, construction activities on Fifth Avenue are expected to be wrapping up soon.

The contractor will continue to work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m., weather permitting. The contractor may work on Saturdays if needed to keep the project on schedule.
