Traffic Lanes to be Reconfigured in downtown Pittsburgh

(October 25, 2024) - New traffic lanes will be established in downtown Pittsburgh starting Monday, October 28.

The lanes along Fifth and Sixth avenues are being reconfigured to accommodate expanded sidewalks and align with recently installed traffic signals as part of Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s University Line project.

Some on-street parking will be eliminated, and valet zones will be relocated as a result of the changes. “No parking” signs have been posted.

Crews will work weekdays starting Monday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for about two weeks. Safety personnel will direct traffic each day.

The reconfiguration of traffic is part of a temporary, phased approach to construction of PRT’s University Line, the region’s first on-street bus rapid transit system.
