Two New Work Locations Being Added to University Line Construction
February 27, 2025
Pittsburgh Regional Transit will add two new work locations in Oakland next week.
On March 1, PRT’s contractor will establish two additional work sites on Forbes Avenue. The first one is between Schenley Drive and Schenley Drive Extension.

PRT’s contractor will begin relocating drainage and electrical infrastructure before building a new PRTX bus station.
To accommodate the construction fencing, the existing sidewalk, parking lane and bike lane adjacent to Schenley Park will be inaccessible. PRT’s contractor will shift traffic to the left and install a temporary bike lane adjacent to the construction fencing. Pedestrians will need to cross Forbes Avenue at Lawrence Hall or Schenley Drive Extension. The crosswalk at Schenley Drive will be closed. The traffic and pedestrian detours for water and drainage work will remain in place 24/7 until May.
Later this year, the contractor will be back to install a PRTX station with a 60-foot bus shelter and transit amenities.
The second new work zone will be at Forbes Avenue and South Bouquet Street in front of Pitt Law School.

PRT’s contractor will begin relocating drainage and electrical infrastructure here as well.
The travel lane and the sidewalk on the south side of the street will be closed and vehicular traffic will be reduced to two lanes. The parking lane on the north side of the road, adjacent to Litchfield Towers, will remain accessible.
Later this year, the contractor will be back to install a PRTX station with two 60-foot bus shelters and transit amenities.
The traffic detour will remain in place 24/7 until April.
Construction on the University Line bus rapid transit project began in Downtown Pittsburgh in September 2023. The University Line will feature dedicated bus lanes and enhanced transit amenities, connecting downtown Pittsburgh to Oakland, Pennsylvania’s second- and third-largest economic centers. The $291 million project is expected to be operational by 2027.
