Restoration to Begin at Fifth Avenue and Liberty Avenue Next Week

On Monday, April 22nd, the PRT contractor will begin restoration activities on the south side of Fifth Avenue (adjacent to Heinz Healey’s) between Wood Street and Liberty Avenue.

This portion of restoration will include replacing a section of sidewalk where the fire hydrant is located and replacing one travel lane of the concrete roadway on the south side of Fifth Avenue. This work is expected to be completed in four to six weeks.

The north side of Fifth Avenue, adjacent to Triangle Park, will be restored later this year and will include a full replacement of the sidewalk, granite curbs and concrete roadway.  The sidewalk will also be expanded to accommodate the new bus shelter.

Bypass Pumping to Be Performed at Sixth Avenue and Wood Street Next Week

On Saturday, April 27th the PRT contractor will perform a temporary bypass pumping operation to inspect the newly installed storm drain near the work zone at Sixth Avenue and Wood Street.

The operation will begin at 5:00 a.m. and is expected to be completed by 5:00 p.m.

Large bypass pumps will be placed in front of the K&L Gates building and the associated equipment will be laid across Sixth and Liberty Avenues (as shown in the photo above).

During that time Sixth Avenue will be closed between Liberty Avenue and Wood Street. Liberty Avenue will be reduced to one traffic lane adjacent to the Sixth Avenue bridge. Traffic control personnel will facilitate two-way traffic.

The road will reopen to vehicle traffic when the operation is complete.
