Construction Activities will Close Sixth Avenue Between Wood Street and Liberty Avenue Friday Night

On Friday, February 23rd beginning at 6:00 p.m. until Saturday, February 24th at 2:00 a.m., Sixth Avenue between Wood Street and Liberty Avenue will be closed for eight hours.

During that time, bus routes 61A, 61B, 61C and 71B will not stop at Sixth Avenue and Smithfield Street in front of Trinity Cathedral Pittsburgh. Riders can instead board these bus routes on Smithfield Street at Sixth Avenue (at the PRT super stop where the P1 and several other bus routes also pick up and drop off).

After work is completed on Saturday morning, the current detour will be reset. Buses will return to regular routing.

PRT contractors will continue to perform exploratory excavations at Sixth Avenue and Wood Street next week. They are preparing to install a new 15-inch storm drain.

Construction fencing remains in place on Sixth Avenue between Wood Street and Liberty Avenue adjacent to Wood Street Station.

Currently, two travel lanes on Sixth Avenue heading toward Liberty (adjacent to Wood Street Station) are closed. Vehicles traveling on Sixth Avenue are forced to turn left or right onto Wood Street.

One travel lane is maintained so vehicles traveling on Liberty Avenue can turn right onto Sixth Avenue.

Underground utility work will continue at this location through the end of March.

Construction activities will resume at this location in the spring.
