New Work Sites Added to University Line Construction in Uptown

Pittsburgh Regional Transit will begin the next phase of construction on the University Line bus rapid transit project with work expanding along Fifth and Forbes avenues in Uptown the week of September 22.

On Monday, September 22, crews will begin work on Forbes Avenue between Jumonville and Brady streets.

The following day, on Tuesday September 23, construction will also begin on Fifth Avenue between Pride and Jumonville streets. These areas will ultimately include four new PRTX stations.

Crews will be on site from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, through the end of December 2025.

Pedestrian and Vehicular Access

Contractors will maintain two travel lanes during evening rush hours (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.).

Street parking will remain available on the north side of Forbes Avenue (opposite the work zone) between Jumonville Street and Brady Street, except during evening rush hours.

Parking will be suspended on both sides of Fifth Avenue between Pride and Brady streets.

Side streets and intersections will remain open.

Pedestrian access will be maintained, with temporary crosswalks and ADA-accessible ramps.

Bus Service Adjustments

On Forbes Avenues, bus routes 61A, 61B, and 61C will not serve stops at:

  • Forbes at Jumonville
  • Forbes at Seneca
  • Forbes at Moultrie

Temporary stops will be located at:

  • Jumonville at Watson
  • Fifth Avenue bus lane at Seneca
  • Fifth Avenue bus lane at Moultrie

On Fifth Avenue, bus routes 61A, 61B, 61C, and 71B will continue to serve existing bus stops.

While contractors will make every effort to maintain the existing stops, there may be occasions when stops are not accessible due to construction activities.

  • Excavation and utility relocation (water and sewer)
  • Installation of new and wider sidewalks, curbs, and ADA-accessible ramps to improve safety and accessibility

In future phases, PRT will install:
