PRT’s contractor will be placing temporary concrete patches at the intersection of Fifth Avenue at Thackery Avenue and Fifth Avenue at North Bouquet Street beginning August 9.
Contractors will close the intersection of Fifth Avenue at Thackeray Avenue from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 9 for milling and paving. Motorists will be unable to turn right from Thackeray onto Fifth Avenue. The sidewalk and crosswalk along Fifth Avenue will remain closed.
North Bouquet Street from Fifth Avenue to O’Hara Street will be closed from 6 a.m. on Saturday, August 9 through 6 a.m. on Monday, August 11. The contractor will maintain access to the
buildings and the parking garage. Sidewalks and crosswalks will remain open.
Buses will continue to serve stops throughout the work, and flaggers will help with traffic flow. Motorists are encouraged to allow for additional travel time.

Bike Lane to be Installed at Schenley Plaza
PRT’s contractor will pave the bike lane on Saturday, August 9 extending from Schenley Drive to Schenley Drive Extension (both of which border Schenley Plaza) which will be located behind
the future 60-foot bus shelter at Bigelow Boulevard PRTX station.
Additionally, crews will pour concrete to restore the sidewalk and install shelter pads. Once work is completed, the fencing will be removed allowing access to the sidewalk and bike lane. A small construction fence will remain around the shelter pads to protect exposed electrical conduit until the shelters are installed.
Parking and stopping along Forbes Avenue will be prohibited during work.

Crews will be working daily from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning on August 11 and wrapping up on August 15.
The existing roadway barriers will be removed each night as the painting progresses.

Sidewalk Demolition to Continue on Fifth Avenue in Oakland
Sidewalk demolition is underway at several locations along Fifth Avenue in Oakland.
After excavation, utilities including water, sewer and electric can be relocated since PRT will not build on top of the underground infrastructure. PRT’s contractors will also set utility connections for future station amenities.
Future PRTX stations within the work zone are:
- Chesterfield Road Station - Fifth Avenue at Chesterfield Road
- Atwood Station (existing) - Fifth Avenue at Atwood Street
- Bigelow Boulevard Station - Fifth Avenue at University Place
- Tennyson Avenue Station - Fifth Avenue at Tennyson Avenue
Pedestrian access is being maintained on both sides of Fifth Avenue except for a small area at Fifth Avenue and Chesterfield Road.
Most bus stops within the new work zone remain available to accommodate riders, but may be moved a few feet to the left or right of the existing stop. Two bus stops – Fifth Avenue at Thackery
and Fifth Avenue at University Place – are combined into one new temporary stop between the existing stops.
This phase of construction on Fifth Avenue is expected to be completed in fall 2025.

System Testing to Continue at Downtown PRX Stations
Technicians have been working over the past week to ensure each piece of the security systems at the Downtown PRTX stations are operational prior to final testing. The next step before they are placed online involves extensive testing of the components and entire system at each station, which is anticipated to occur within the next few weeks.
The bus arrival screens switched from displaying scheduled bus times to real-time arrival information at each of the stations this week. Wayfinding signage has been posted at all of the
stations.
On July 27, PRT officially opened the five new PRTX stations in downtown Pittsburgh. The stations are as follows:
1. Ross Street Station - Fifth Avenue and Ross Street
2. William Penn Station - Fifth Avenue and William Penn Place
3. Market Square Station - Fifth Avenue and Liberty Avenue
4. Wood Street Station - Sixth Avenue and Liberty Avenue
5. Steel Plaza Station - Sixth Avenue between Grant and Ross Streets
Downtown stations have new glass shelters with seating, lighting, next bus arrival screens, and wayfinding signage. Ticket vending machines will be installed at four of the five downtown
stations in early 2026.
Bus routes 61A Braddock, 61B Braddock Swissvale, 61C McKeesport, 71B Highland Park, G2 West Busway and P1 East Busway will serve the new stations.
