Shelter Installation to Continue at Steel Plaza Station
March 28, 2025

PRT’s contractor started building two new PRTX shelters at Steel Plaza Station. The bus rapid transit station will be located on Sixth Avenue between Grant and Ross streets, adjacent to Mellon Green.
The new PRTX station will include two 60-foot bus shelters, emergency phone, security camera(s), seating, lighting, and real-time arrival signs. Bus shelters will be closed to the public until all components have been tested.
The sidewalk adjacent to Mellon Green will be closed during shelter installation. The crosswalks at Grant and Ross streets will remain accessible and the sidewalk adjacent to the work zone will remain open.
Shelter installation is expected to take several weeks. When installation is complete, the contractor will reduce the size of the fence to allow access to the sidewalk.
Construction fencing is expected to remain in place until summer 2025.
When construction for the University Line is complete, there will be five new PRTX stations in the Downtown Loop.

Construction Fencing to be Placed at Forbes Avenue and McKee Place
On Saturday, March 29, PRT’s contractor will return to Forbes Avenue and McKee Place to erect a large construction fence where they will be working for the next few months. The contractor began roadway restoration at this site last weekend.
The contractor will be working weekdays and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to install new sidewalks, new curbs, and accessible ramps.
The work zone will be on the south side of Forbes Avenue occupying one travel lane and the sidewalk. Vehicle traffic will be shifted to the left or north side of Forbes Avenue.
Pedestrian access will be maintained behind the construction fence. Parking will be maintained on the north side of Forbes Avenue opposite the work site.
The bus stop at Forbes Avenue at McKee Place will be out of service. Riders should instead use the bus stop at Forbes Avenue at Halket Street or Forbes Avenue at Meyran Avenue.
Construction fencing is expected to remain in place 24/7 until June.
Beginning April 5, vehicles will be unable to make the right turn from Forbes Avenue onto McKee Place while additional roadway restoration is completed. Access will be provided to emergency vehicles only. Work is expected to take a few days. Traffic restrictions will be removed after work is complete.
When construction for the University Line is complete, Forbes Avenue at McKee Place will have a new PRTX Station with a 60-foot bus shelter and transit amenities.

New Work Zone to be Established at Forbes and Craft Avenues
On March 29, PRT’s contractor will erect a new work zone on Forbes Avenue between Craft Avenue and Halket Street. The contractor will relocate sewer and electrical infrastructure, and install new sidewalks, new curbs, and accessible ramps.
Work at this location will take place weekdays and Saturdays as needed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until June.
Construction fencing will occupy one travel lane and the sidewalk.
Later this year, the contractor will return to install a 60-foot bus shelter with transit amenities.

Curb Installation Underway at Forbes Avenue and South Bouquet Street
PRT’s contractor recently placed construction fencing on Forbes Avenue at South Bouquet Street in front of Pitt Law School to build a new PRTX station.
The contractor is relocating drainage and electrical infrastructure and installing new curbs. Next, they will install two new concrete slabs, one for each of the new PRTX bus shelters.
One travel lane and the sidewalk adjacent to the work zone are closed. The sidewalk and street parking opposite the work zone remains accessible.
Construction fencing is expected to remain in place 24/7 until May.
Later this year, the contractor will return to construct Central Oakland Station with two 60-foot bus shelters and transit amenities.

Electrical Work to Continue in Uptown and Oakland
PRT’s electrical subcontractor began electrical work on Forbes Avenue in Oakland. Crews are placing underground electrical conduit across the roadway supplying power to the future PRTX stations.
Crews will be working weekdays and will move between the locations listed below over the next few weeks. Work is expected to take between one to two weeks at each location.
All of the current work locations are on Forbes Avenue:
- Between Schenley Drive and Schenley Drive Extension (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
- Between Craft Avenue and Halket Street (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
- Between Jumonville Street and Birmingham Bridge (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
- Between Diamond Street and Pride Street (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
To accommodate this work, one travel lane, and the sidewalk adjacent to the work area may be closed. Traffic restrictions will be removed every evening.

Sewer Inspections and Catch Basin Replacements to Continue on Forbes Avenue in Uptown
PRT’s contractor is inspecting underground drainage infrastructure using CCTV technology in coordination with catch basin replacements in Uptown. There will be three crews working weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fifth Avenue between Diamond Street and Wyandotte Street.
Crews will move between multiple locations within the work zone as work is completed. All drainage infrastructure within the limits of the project along Fifth and Forbes avenues will be inspected before catch basins are replaced.
Work will require a partial lane closure providing access to the manhole and/or catch basin on or near the curb. Traffic restrictions will be removed each night.
