Sidewalk Demolition to Begin at Fifth Avenue and Market Street Next Week
June 28, 2024

Over the past week, the Pittsburgh Regional Transit contractor has placed another section of new concrete roadway on Fifth Avenue between Market Street and Liberty Avenue. The contractor is only replacing one section of roadway at a time to minimize the disruption to traffic and pedestrians.
Next week, the contractor will begin demolition of the sidewalk on the north side of Fifth Avenue adjacent to Triangle Park. The new sidewalk will be expanded to accommodate the new bus shelter.
Later this summer, the contractor will replace the granite curbs, and install a new bus shelter and transit amenities.
The construction fencing is expected to remain in place 24/7 until late fall.

Utility Work to Continue at Sixth Avenue and Diamond Street
Last week, the Pittsburgh Regional Transit contractor successfully removed and replaced an existing fire hydrant on Sixth Avenue. The hydrant is being relocated so that the sidewalk can be expanded further into the existing roadway.
Next week, the PRT contractor will continue to perform demolition of the sidewalk in this location and prepare to install new drainage infrastructure in the roadway.
Beginning Wednesday, July 3, vehicles traveling on Sixth Avenue will not be able to turn right onto Diamond Street. Vehicles will instead continue straight and turn right on Forbes Avenue.
The construction fencing is expected to remain in place 24/7 until late fall.

Demolition to Continue at Sixth Avenue and Grant Street
Over the last few weeks, the PRT contractor has been demolishing the existing roadway on Sixth Avenue between Grant and Ross streets in preparation for a new roadway, sidewalk, and granite curbs.
Next week, the contractor will prepare the area for a new roadway by placing gravel and rebar in the ground before pouring concrete.
Similarly to Fifth Avenue, the concrete roadway will be poured in two different sections to minimize the impacts on traffic.
When construction is complete, this location will have two 60-foot bus shelters with transit amenities.
The construction fencing is expected to remain in place 24/7 until late fall.

Electrical Crews Working at Multiple Locations Next Week
