Sidewalk Demolition Underway on Forbes Avenue in Uptown
The University Line construction continues along Forbes Avenue between Stevenson and Jumonville streets. Ultimately, three new PRTX stations will be located within the work zone.
PRT contractors are relocating water and sewer infrastructure and installing new expanded sidewalks and curbs with accessible ramps. Additionally, crews are running conduits for station power and pedestrian safety systems. When construction is complete, nearly the entire length of Fifth and Forbes avenues in Uptown will have new sidewalks.
Crews will be on site from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, through the end of March 2026. Work may also be performed on Saturdays as needed.
Parking has been suspended on both sides of Forbes Avenue between Stevenson and Jumonville streets. Side streets and intersections will remain open. Pedestrian access will be maintained with temporary crosswalks and accessible ramps.
While contractors will make every effort to maintain the existing bus stops, there may be occasions when a stop is not accessible due to construction activities.
Future phases will include installation of new PRTX stations with upgraded passenger amenities, red bus lanes, resurfaced roadways, landscaping, and green infrastructure.

University Line Public Art Project
Shiftworks, in collaboration with the City of Pittsburgh and PRT, selected Pittsburgh-based artist Marsha Rollinger as the artist for the University Line public art project.
Since her selection, Marsha has been gathering input from community members “to ensure the art that I create reflects the character of the neighborhoods along the University Line,” she said.
Marsha’s signature style – bold, vibrant and layered with hidden details – will be featured through the Downtown, Uptown and Oakland corridor where buses on the University Line will travel.
While Marsha has developed preliminary concepts, she is still seeking feedback on potential designs and locations. To participate, visit https://engage.pittsburghpa.gov/phad-projects/percent-art-university-line.

The University Line Corridor
When construction for the University Line is complete, there will be 24 PRTX stations throughout Downtown, Uptown, and Oakland.
PRT continues to work closely with stakeholders including community groups, universities, businesses, and other impacted groups during construction.
PRTX stations will have new shelters with upgraded amenities, including next-bus arrival screens, fare vending machines, seating, lighting, emergency phones, and security cameras.
