Construction Activities Will Wrap up at Sixth Avenue and Smithfield Street Next Week

PRT contractors completed the installation of new water and drainage infrastructure earlier this week on Sixth Avenue between Smithfield Street and William Penn Place.

Next week, the contractors will temporarily restore the roadway and sidewalk, remove the construction fencing, and reopen all travel lanes of Sixth Avenue.

Bus routes P1, P68, and P71 will return to their regular routes.

Construction activities will resume at this location in the spring.

Construction for Traffic Signals Will Continue at Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue Next Week

Groundwork for 35 new traffic signals that will ultimately support the University Line will continue next week.

The PRT electrical subcontractor will be working weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue next week near the courthouse and BNY Mellon Center.

The contractor will begin installing traffic signals and poles on top of the foundations in the spring.

The contractors will also perform exploratory excavation at Fifth Avenue and Smithfield Street for two to three days next week.

Smithfield Street will be reduced to one travel lane near the intersection. Traffic safety  personnel will facilitate two-way traffic.

Construction Activities will Continue at Sixth Avenue and Wood Street Next Week

PRT contractors will continue to perform exploratory excavations at Sixth Avenue and Wood Street next week. They are preparing to install a new 15-inch storm drain.

Construction fencing remains in place on Sixth Avenue between Wood Street and Liberty Avenue adjacent to Wood Street Station. Two travel lanes on Sixth Avenue heading toward Liberty (adjacent to Wood Street Station) will be closed. Vehicles traveling on Sixth Avenue will be forced to turn left or right onto Wood Street.

One travel lane will be maintained so vehicles coming from Liberty Avenue can turn right onto Sixth Avenue.

Underground utility work will continue at this location through the end of March.
